Master of Arts in Educational Mathematics Curriculum
The MAEM Program is not accepting future applications at the moment and has paused offering admission.
The Master of Arts in Educational Mathematics听program may be completed in two years, with substantial course work completed during the summer (see听Projected Class Offerings for 2 Year Degree Completion听for more information). Students also have the option to take these classes over a longer period of time, as needed. While most of the classes will be offered in a traditional format, some of the classes will be offered in a blended or web format. Classes also will be offered during the daytime and in the evening to accommodate the schedule of working teachers. Please note, the Master of Arts in Educational Mathematics听program is NOT a license granting program.

The Comprehensive Exam is a culminating assessment designed to measure a candidate鈥檚 knowledge and understanding of mathematics and mathematics education, based on their individual program of study in MAEM. During their final semester, candidates enroll in MATH 6300 (0 credits) to register for the exam. |
The 18-in-15 Program
Are you a licensed AYA teacher who wants to teach听College Credit Plus听courses or at a community college?听With Otterbein鈥檚听18 in 15 Program, you can earn the 18 semester hours that you need* in only 15 months.听Our educational mathematics classes are offered in the evenings and during the summer, providing practical information and experiences to apply in your classroom.
All courses are three credits and can be taken in any order 鈥 no prerequisites.
Tuition & Financial Aid
Master of Arts in Educational Mathematics Scholarships Available
The Master of Arts in Educational Mathematics program offers merit-based scholarships to top candidates when admitted. All MAEM candidates will be considered.
For consideration, the candidate must provide:
- Documentation of acceptance to MAEM; or concurrent application to MAEM
- Documentation of teaching employment in a Title I school or in a Type 7 or Type 8 school district (Ohio Department of Education, District Typology Index, January 2015; ); or documentation of working with populations in developmental mathematics at the post-secondary level
- Two letters of support, at least one from an individual in a supervisory position. Both letters should address:
- the candidate鈥檚 expertise in teaching mathematics; and
- the candidate鈥檚 capacity to perform at the graduate school level in mathematics.
- A statement on post-program impact. Forecast and describe one of the following:
- impact on career (for example: new short-term objectives, shifts in employment or specialization, continuing education, path to pursue long-term goals); or
- impact on students (for example: meeting the needs of students / school / district, enrichment of opportunities, promotion of STEM teaching and learning).

Capstone
There is an additional fee for each Capstone hour. Please consult the Business Office (link) site for a complete list of fees. Tuition waivers may not be used to cover the additional Capstone fee.
Tuition Waivers
Teachers in schools with student teaching and field experience agreements with 9i果冻制作厂 may qualify for tuition waiver certificates. 9i果冻制作厂 provides these waivers to districts or independent schools in return for their provision of field placements for 9i果冻制作厂students. However, 9i果冻制作厂 has no control over the distribution of the waivers to teachers, which is determined by each district/school. The following provisions and conditions apply:
- Tuition waiver certificates may be assigned by the proper school officials to school employees admitted to graduate study at 9i果冻制作厂. Admission to graduate study is solely at the option of the University. There is no obligation on the part of the institution to admit students because of this agreement who would not otherwise meet graduate study admission requirements.
- Students may use multiple fee waivers within a semester; however, the number of fee waiver credits may not exceed the number of course credits taken.
- Teachers paying tuition with tuition waiver certificates from their schools must submit a valid waiver certificate at the time of registration or make other arrangements with the Business office. 9i果冻制作厂 has the right to refuse acceptance of an 鈥渆xpired鈥 fee waiver.
- Tuition waivers do not cover the costs of special fees for testing, Capstone hours, or computer labs.
How to Apply
Get Started on your MA in Educational Mathematics
Rolling admission for the Master of Arts in Educational Mathematics allows applications to the program any term.
Requirements for Admission
In order to be admitted into the Master of Arts in Educational Mathematics, applicants must have an AYA licensure in Integrated Mathematics or be a math educator holding a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a closely related area from a regionally accredited college or university. Applicants must also have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0.
How to Apply to the MAEM Program

- Submit Official transcripts for all previous college and/or university work
- Submit two recommendation forms (use this form)
- Submit a personal statement
- Submit a professional resume
Once all materials are received your file will be sent to the Admission Committee for review. We know you are eager to know the decision, so we complete this process as quickly as possible to notify you of the admissions decision. Typically this will take about one week from the time your file is received by the Admissions Committee.
