What is the Lifelong Learning Community?

A group of mature learners who are:

  • Open to learning.
  • Curious about the world.
  • Committed to maintaining an active mind for a healthy body.
  • Interested in coming to the 9i果冻制作厂campus for a year-long menu of workshops, lectures and听May mini-courses designed for Lifelong Learning Community members.
  • Eager to meet artists, lecturers, writers and faculty in formal and informal settings.

Event offerings and topics include art, history, health and well-being, book discussion groups, environmental and social issues, day trips, and other social opportunities.

Membership & Benefits

LLC membership rates are based on each academic semester. To register for membership, .

Guests:

We permit one-time guests at any event*. If a guest would like to attend more often, then we ask that they become a member. Guests must register just like members for joining and access to sessions.

*One-time guest exception may be made for day trips and the holiday luncheon. A non-member spouse or friend may attend these events if they pay the fee for the day drip or make a donation towards the luncheon.

Benefits of the Lifelong Learning Community Membership Include:

  • Invitation to special 9i果冻制作厂 events with President John Comerford, experts, authors, and notable campus visitors.
  • Exclusive offerings of lectures, discussions, workshops and May mini-courses created for the Lifelong Learning Community members, by members and by 9i果冻制作厂faculty.
  • 9i果冻制作厂Summer Theatre: Discounted matinee performances with opportunities to meet the actors, directors and playwright.
  • Westerville Symphony: Discounted tickets for events in Cowan Hall in October through April. Contact Alumni Relations for promotional code for discount.
  • Friends of the Courtright Memorial Library: Discounted rate of $5 to become a member (regularly $20). This applies to new memberships, or those who are not currently Friends of the Library. .
  • Volunteer opportunities within the LLC and in the Westerville/9i果冻制作厂community.

Volunteering & Presenting Opportunities

Lifelong Learning

Opportunities are available to volunteer within the Lifelong Learning Community each semester and throughout the entire academic year. *Please note: A current paid LLC Membership is a pre-requisite for all volunteers and committee members.

Community Engagement

At 9i果冻制作厂鈥檚 Center for Community Engagement (CCE), we believe that even small acts can change the world, and that there are many ways to change the world. We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities in various areas for those who want to volunteer a few hours each term or several hours each week, we have it all!

Theatre

9i果冻制作厂Theatre is in search of volunteers to usher public performances. 听Ushers report to the theatre 45 minutes prior to curtain, receive a basic training about seating and safety/evacuation procedures and then assist with seating patrons. 听In exchange, ushers receive a complimentary ticket for the performance.

LLC Scholars Program

The LLC Scholars Program was created to support the lifelong learning mission of 9i果冻制作厂 by helping current students who are beginning their lifelong learning journey. The program will help rising seniors in need of support and each LLC Scholar will be asked to play an active role in the Lifelong Learning Community throughout the academic year. Awards will be selected each spring (and awardees will be honored at the annual spring Honors Convocation) and awarded in the Fall to awarded seniors.

Senior College

Seniors 60 and over may attend one 9i果冻制作厂 class each semester. Follow the link below to learn more about Senior College Courses and to submit an application.

Please note that you are expected to register 10 days before classes begin so that the Office of the Registrar can check your request with the class instructor.听 If you have questions about the application process, you may contact Megan Edelman,听edelman1@otterbein.edu听or call 614-823-1248.听 Not all class offerings听can be made available through Senior College, depending on traditional听student demand and class type.

Support the LLC

In May 2022, a group of generous donors established two endowments to support the Lifelong Learning Community at Otterbein. The first endowment helps to fund LLC operations and programming and the second endowment is earmarked for the LLC Scholars Program, which helps rising seniors in need of support. If you are interested in supporting the LLC endowments, please contact Becky May, our program assistant, at 614-823-1305 or simply make a donation online but be sure to select “Other” in the “Designation” box and write in the fund you wish to support: either the LLC Program Fund or the LLC Scholars Award Fund.

You may also send a check to the Institutional Advancement office, listed below, with the fund designation noted in the check memo field.
